Crickex sports betting: cricket markets and how they work

Cricket is at the heart of Crickex. One match can carry dozens of markets at once: the winner, session runs, the top batter, the toss and more. On our exchange you can also lay a team to lose and trade your position as the match moves.

This page explains how to read odds and spot the bookmaker’s margin, how Test, ODI and T20 cricket bet differently, how back and lay work with real numbers, what Fancy and Bookmaker markets are, and how to manage your money like a disciplined bettor.

Reading odds

We show decimal odds. The number is what you get back for every 1 taka staked, including your stake. A bet of ৳100 at 1.80 returns ৳180 if it wins: your ৳100 back plus ৳80 profit.

Odds also tell you the chance the price implies: implied probability = 1 ÷ odds. Odds of 1.80 imply 1 ÷ 1.80 = 55.6%. If you believe a team’s real chance is higher than the price implies, the bet has value; if lower, it does not.

Decimal odds and what they imply
Decimal oddsImplied probability৳100 bet returns
1.2580%৳125
1.5066.7%৳150
2.0050%৳200
3.0033.3%৳300
5.0020%৳500

The margin. Add up the implied probabilities of every outcome and you get more than 100%. Two teams both priced at 1.90 imply 52.6% each, 105.2% in total; the extra 5.2% is the margin. Lower totals mean fairer prices, which is one reason experienced bettors like exchanges.

How the cricket format changes the bet

Cricket formats and betting
FormatLengthWhat it means for betting
TestUp to 5 days, two innings eachThe draw is a real outcome. Pitch wear, weather and declarations matter; prices swing session by session.
ODI50 overs a sideRain can bring the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method into play and change targets. Middle-overs run rates decide many games.
T2020 overs a sideHigh variance: one big over can flip the match. The 6-over powerplay and death overs move prices most.

In short formats, favourites lose more often than their prices suggest to casual fans, because a single partnership or over can decide the game. In Tests, conditions and the toss carry more weight: check the pitch report and the forecast before you bet.

Back and lay on the Crickex exchange

The Crickex exchange lets you bet against other players instead of only against a bookmaker. Back means betting that something will happen. Lay means betting that it will not: you take the bookmaker’s side, and your risk is the backer’s potential profit.

Lay liability = lay stake × (odds − 1). Lay Bangladesh at 2.50 for ৳1,000 and your liability is ৳1,000 × 1.50 = ৳1,500. If Bangladesh lose, you win the ৳1,000 stake (less commission). If they win, you pay out ৳1,500.

The exchange takes a small commission on net winnings in a market.

Bookmaker and Fancy markets

Alongside the exchange’s Match Odds, Crickex offers two market types that cricket bettors in South Asia know well.

Bookmaker markets give fixed prices on the match winner, set by the bookmaker rather than matched between players. Prices are often shown as a rate, for example 45, meaning ৳45 profit for every ৳100 staked. They are quick to use and usually carry no exchange commission.

Fancy markets are about what happens inside the match: runs in the first 6 or 10 overs, a batter’s score, the fall of a wicket. Each line has a Yes side (the number will be reached) and a No side (it will not), each with its own rate. Fancy lines move ball by ball, which makes them the busiest markets during live play. The exact settlement rule for each line is shown in the market.

Common cricket markets

Cricket markets explained
MarketWhat you are betting onWorth knowing
Match Odds / winnerWhich team wins the matchCheck the rules for ties, no-results and rain-shortened games
Toss winnerWhich captain wins the coin tossA pure 50/50 event, so only the margin separates the prices
Session runs (Fancy)Runs in a set number of oversThe most active live market; lines move every ball
Top batter or bowlerWhich player scores most runs or takes most wickets for a teamUsually settled on the named team only; check what happens if a player does not bat
Total runsWhether a team or innings goes over or under a lineLines shift quickly once the innings starts
Method of dismissalHow the next wicket fallsHigher odds, much harder to predict

Settlement rules decide what happens when a match is shortened or abandoned, so read them before betting on rain-affected fixtures.

Competitions to bet on

Cricket betting follows the calendar. The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) usually runs early in the year; the IPL fills the spring; the Pakistan Super League, Caribbean Premier League and other franchise events spread across the season; and ICC events such as the T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy, plus the Asia Cup, bring the biggest markets of all. Bilateral Test, ODI and T20I series run year-round.

Markets open as soon as fixtures are confirmed, often days before the toss, so you can get in early when you have a view on team news or conditions.

Other sports and sportsbooks

Cricket is the headline, but Crickex covers far more through our own cricket book and our sportsbook partners: football, tennis, basketball and more, plus a dedicated horse racing book.

Betting like a professional

  • Set a bankroll for the month and stake a small, fixed share of it on each bet, such as 1% to 2%. A losing run then never ends your month.
  • Bet on what you know. Specialising in one league or format beats betting on everything.
  • Compare implied probability with your own view before every bet, and skip bets where you have no edge.
  • Check team news and conditions: playing XIs, the pitch, dew for night games and the weather forecast.
  • Keep a record of stakes, odds and results. It shows which markets actually work for you.
  • Never chase losses. A bigger stake to win back a loss is the fastest way to a bigger loss.

Frequently asked questions

What is “crickex bet”?

It is how many players search for our sportsbook and exchange. The markets and steps above are how betting works at Crickex.

What is the difference between back and lay?

Back means betting an outcome will happen; lay means betting it will not. A lay’s risk is its liability: stake × (odds − 1).

Can I cash out a cricket bet early?

On the exchange you can close a position at any time by placing the opposite bet, as in the trading example above, to lock in a profit or cut a loss.

What happens to my bet if rain stops play?

It depends on the market’s rules. Limited-overs matches may be decided by the DLS method; abandoned matches are usually void for match markets. Check the rules in each market.

Why do the odds include a margin?

So the bookmaker makes money over time. You can see it by adding up the implied probabilities of every outcome; anything over 100% is the margin.

Are there tips that guarantee a win?

No. Anyone selling guaranteed cricket tips or “fixed” matches is running a scam, and is not connected to Crickex.
